Tips & Info

Here we have put together some information which we think may be useful for your stay. Of course if you have any other questions, just send me a message via Airbnb for anything missing.

Our Water
All our water at Branscome Gård is sourced from our own well. The water is tested and of very high quality and very tasty too (we moved from London and boy do we love Swedish water).

We recently upgraded our filtration system and instead of opting to add chemicals to the water, we opted for a fancier air filtration system. Basically the water is filtered with high pressure air. This does cause the water to come out of the tap with a lot of bubbles in it which looks slightly white at first and is slightly sparkling. This clears up within seconds and means the water does not have man-made additives which is the way we like it.

Our Energy & Heating
We have a geothermal or ground-source heat pump. This basically works by transferring heat from under the ground by taking advantage of the fairly consistent temperatures that are found there throughout the seasons. The heat-pump transfers the heat to our home and surrounding buildings and is topped up to the desired temperature via electricity.

You probably noticed the solar panels we have on the barn and surrounding buildings. I wish I could say that all our electricity is home-sourced but it is Sweden and the sun does not shine all the time (I know this may be a shocker). So in summer we tend to create more electricity than we need and add it to the grid for which we receive credits. Besides this we do plug in to the grid. Though happily Sweden's energy mix is one of the greenest in the world here is one source which talks about this.
The Wood-fired Sauna by the lake
If you are anything like me, one of the reasons you booked this place will be because of the sauna. The sauna is all yours during your stay. And we will stay away from that swimming location too.

All the wood, kindling, and matches will be waiting for you at the sauna, and feel free to bring and use the bathrobes supplied in the studio.

Here is one link on how to safely use a wood-fired sauna.

The sauna is by the lake so if you are looking to take a dip-and-sauna that is something I highly recommend. I usually take a dip after using the sauna, but to each their own.

The best place to take a dip is actually not the stones immediately close to the sauna but rather a small sandy beach which is a little further to the left. You can see this on the map below. When the lake is filled high this can be hard to find but trust me on this.

Check out the below map below to see how to orientate yourself around the property.

Swimming locations on the Property
The map above shows the two swimming locations on the property. The shared beach is part of the property but it is enjoyed by the locals here too. There are other lakes and locations you may come across on your walks also.

The Canoe
Feel free to use the canoe by the sauna. It was my wife's great grandfather's so please be careful. We don't ordinarily keep the oars in there so please let me know if you want to use it and I will put the oars out for you. Life preservers can be found in the sauna cabin.

The canoe is quite heavy so needs two people to carry into the lake. Please place it in the lake by the sandy swimming point rather than the rocky part (this can be hard to see when the lake water is high but the map above indicates this with the yellow to the left of the sauna/bastu).

The Washing Machine
Feel free to use the washing machine if you need to do a laundry. There is detergent available. The machine does need to be plugged in, you will find the plug to the right of the shower and a socket to plug it into to the left of the mirror. There is also a drying line above to the left of the washing machine, you can pull the line out and hook it in on the wall opposite.

The Lock-up
There is a room which is locked in the Studio. This is our wine-cellar where we sometimes keep our drinks.

Any other questions just shoot me a message on Airbnb.
